Stephanie Ketty
ARTIST
Stephanie Ketty (b. 1983 in Michigan) is a New York-based artist who floods her canvases with bold and bright colors in oils, acrylics, and house paints. Ketty, drawing from her own mixed identities, mixes layers of clashing bright colors that represent a theme of communal interconnectedness through the harmony of an individualistic taste for color — to Ketty: reds, yellows, purples, greens all exist in the same canvas just as all folk stories have a right to coexist.
Ketty sees her art as a visual storytelling practice where she seeks to document a nostalgic future in the form of abstract paintings. She draws inspiration from a fantastic reality that both contextualizes a moment in real time as well as simultaneously reaches beyond the reality of that moment. The abstract nature of her work allows others to experience and engage with it in an esoteric manner which not only makes it personal to each audience but personably fluid through time.
Ketty has been painting for over a decade. She studied painting at Western Michigan University prior to relocating to New York City, where she currently lives and works in Soho.
